With the recent launch of Nintendo Wii to all gamers and into the world, Sony Playstation 3 players are in a quandary. While in the midst of a limbo, there is one question that proved to be just simply inevitable: “Which is far superior: the Nintendo Wii or the Playstation 3?”
Years ago, Sony PS3 had almost monopolized the arena of gaming consoles. But then, judging from early sales of both consoles right now, the Nintendo Wii boasts a comfortable lead over Sony’s Playstation 3. However, officials at Sony say that they believe that in the long run, PS3 will outdo its much-heralded rival.
So what’s wrong with the PS3? Or better yet, is there something wrong with the gaming console? The answer to both questions is none in terms of its capabilities and technical specification. It’s not the fact that it can play high definition game using an 550-mhz graphics, a 20GB and 60GB hard drive, its built-in wifi, and online capabilities, along with the capacity to play Blu ray films in high definition. What drags PS3 behind Nintendo Wii is its hefty price tag. Imagine, a standard PS3 costs around $1,000 compared to Wii’s $400!
But contrary to popular belief that cheap means inferior quality, the Nintendo Wii is, in fact, almost at par in terms of graphics and in giving the ultimate gaming experience to any user. Moreover, it can also play flash games. It’s just that any financially challenged gamer would agree that $1,000 is just a way too heavy to burden.
Yet let’s credit Nintendo for coming up with a console that is affordable, functional, and revolutionary all at the same time. It is dubbed as the “cheapest next generation console,” and consequently, the Wii wins gamers’ hearts with its playability that goes along with its movement-based gaming that redefines every gamer’s gaming experience. With this comes one of Wii’s most formidable arsenals, the Wii Remote.
The Wiimote is just like an ordinary remote control that can be strapped to a player’s hand. It has good sensing abilities that provide a lot of room for player movement and is fully compatible with other Wii accessories like the Nunchuk, the classic controller, and the Zapper.
In reviewing the basic controllers of the game, it seems the Wiimote is better than the PS3’s controller. Both are functional yet the Wiimote’s design is more versatile in responding to a variety of scenarios that are present in motion-based games. This viewpoint comes in judging the new functions of each controller.
In reviewing Wii’s gaming capabilities, it is not as powerful as the Playstation 3 in comparison with graphics and other multimedia capabilities; however, what its lacks in this division is compensated by its simplicity, its capacity to play quality games with decent graphics and good game play, and the fact that almost everyone can afford it.
In the battle between the Nintendo Wii and the Playstation 3, the real winners are the millions of gaming fanatics who immerse themselves in hours and hours of near real-life gaming experience.
