Nintendo Wii memory card |
|
My mom and Dad recently bought a Nintendo Wii and my sisters, father and I have been playing with it non-stop ever since. The only problem is that you can't save your Nintendo progress without a memory card. And you can't make a 'mii' character without it! (Included Avatar activity) So if anybody knows that average price for a Wii Memory card, I would appreciate your answer so that I know just how much I need to save up. Thanks!

You don't need to get a Wii memory card to save your stuff. The Wii does have internal memory that you can use to save your games. I saved Zelda on the Wii, and I had to transfer it over to my SD card.
Anyway, you don't need to get an official Wii memory card. You can use any SD card made by any company. They'll all work on the Wii. If you have an SD card for a digital camera, PC, or whatever, you can use that on Wii, but backup whatever is on the card before you use it on the Wii. If you don't have an SD card, then you can find some really cheap ones. Just look in the Sunday ads for sales on SD cards.

I've seen the SD cards at Target and Walmart for very, very inexpensive lately. Around $10 to $12 for some of the offbrands. You don't have to save your progress to a card because of the internal memory but it does help when you start to build up a lot of things that need to be saved. If you're a big time gamer anyhow...

Walmart has the SD cards for only like $13 they have a whole bunch of them here where I live and they are on sale all the time for this price. Let me know if you need one of these or not. I can help you get one if you cannot find them this cheap.

No need to buy an official memory card. It's just another way for them to make money off of you. Just go to Walmart, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc., and you'll find memory cards that will meet your needs. The nice thing is that memory cards are relatively less expensive than they were a year ago and have greater storage capacity.

When it comes to third-party cards, for God's sake see what people say online about them. I've got three PSX memory cards, two are Pelican and they've lasted me for three years, another broke within four months.
Thing is with first party, they know what they're doing, but it's still best to look around to see what brands get the good press.

You know I agree that checking with others on the brand they use and why they choose that brand is a very good idea. I would go with pelican as well because they are a brand that I am familiar with and am happy with the brand.

That's a really good suggestion. Sites like Circuit City, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, etc., all give a buyer the chance to review their product. Check out the ratings on the card you want before you buy just to save you the headache of having to take the card back if there is a problem. One thing good to know is that most cards have at least a one year warranty so even if something happens you are covered....as long as you keep your receipt.

I do not always think that with first party products that they know what they are doing, because they have built their product based off another in this case. But I do think that you can get aftermarket items that work better, they might just tell you they do not work as well because they want you to spend your money on their product.

Yeah, the Sandisk SD memory cards can hold up to 1GB of data and are very easy to use too
