Should I update wii software online?

Hi,

I bought a Wii console last month (Chennai, India), and when I connected to internet through WiFi, It asked me to update software. When I did, it crashed and I found the software version was over written. What I bought was a Korean One, and when I upgrade the software it ended up with error message Error:003. The console become unusable, and even Nintando support said I can not use it further. Sad

I now bought a new console (from the same shop, same chinese/korean). Now, my question is should I connect with internet using wifi? Is there anywhy I can avoid software update? Please help.
