Wii U wont upscale games |
|
Unfortunately, Wii U will not be upscaling your games from the Wii. This was the confirmation gave by Nintendo's PR head, Mark Franklin.
The expectation was that if you pop in a Wii game into Wii U, the game will adjust itself to reflect the Wii U's graphical capabilities. After all, the original Wii was able to do this for GameCube discs.
That's not going to happen with the Wii U. There will be no upscaling, nor will there be texture filtering. What you got on the Wii is what you will get on the Wii U. It shouldn't be all too bad, I guess. Maybe in the future we'll get the "remade" Wii titles for the Wii U anyway.
Much confusion has been had about what the Wii U can really do, and Satoru Iwata himself had to step in and defend it, saying that those who misunderstand their new hardware has just not experienced it yet. Shigeru Miyamoto has also proclaimed that the Wii U will be ending the debate of core vs. casual gaming in the industry.

Upscaling a game is not easy at all. I guess that most of the layers for objects have been designed for a certain resolution. So for each game the developers would have to recreate them....sounds impossible, even more when you take into account the wii u tablet..
